What is Swift®?

Swift is a new technology, developed in the UK, which has been licenced for the general treatment of skin lesions in Podiatry. Swift uses microwave energy which is delivered through a special single use probe applied to the skin to treat the affected tissue.

Does it hurt?

Like many treatments for skin problems, some minor discomfort may be experienced. Before treatment your podiatrist may decide to reduce the thickness of the hard skin over the top of the verruca with a blade, there is typically no discomfort with this. Pain levels vary from person to person but most people undergoing Swift liken it to a pain similar to an injection or a scratch, lasting 1-2 seconds then quickly subsiding.

What can I do after treatment?

In some cases the treated area may feel sore but will not prevent you undertaking normal daily activities.

How many treatments will I need?

This is dependent on how you respond to the treatment. In most cases, you will need more than one treatment usually a month apart depending on the response. Most seem to need 3 but more stubborn ones may need more. Your Podiatrist will be able to discuss this with you further.

Can anyone receive this treatment?

With a few exceptions, most people with skin lesions would be able to have this treatment. Your Podiatrist will carry out an assessment prior to treatment and be able to advise you on this.

Precautions

	Metal pins, plates or replacement joints in the foot or ankle very close to the verruca
	Pacemaker
	Neuropathy or poor peripheral circulation
	Poor or limited healing capacity
	Pregnancy or breastfeeding. It is known that verrucas and warts can increase in size during this period
	Low pain threshold adults
	Young children where short term pain with treatment could be an issue (some are fine)
